U18 Rep Alternative - We'd like to hear from our U18 families

Do you have school, sport and work commitments, but still want to get on the ice to continue the enjoyment of playing hockey? Or are you looking for a supplement while playing on your high school hockey team? Hockey Nova Scotia is exploring alternative options for players who fall under the U18 age group who cannot make the commitment to Rep Hockey, yet want to remain active in the local hockey community.

Currently, the Metro West Force Association is planning a “Sunday Night Lights” program which will provide players with an alternative to Rep Hockey. The MWF goal is to offer 20 Sunday games per season within a one hour ice time. Additionally, there will be no practice time, so players do not need to make the same level of time commitment to hockey.

Metro West Force has approached Metro East Inferno to gauge player interest and our Association believes this is an important program to explore as we want our MEI players to stay in the game.

The potential benefits of such a program could include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Local play within HRM arenas

  • Guaranteed day and time each week

  • Reduced Registration cost

  • Avoid travel and associated costs given the current cost of living

  • No need to fundraise for extra ice or other team related costs

  • Play with friends

  • Less commitment

  • Hockey Nova Scotia is looking to plan a tournament throughout the season to provide the opportunity to play teams that are further away (ie: Cape Breton)

To gauge interest, MEI is asking that you please respond to the following survey:
