HOCKEY NOVA SCOTIA TASK FORCE LAUNCHES PUBLIC SURVEY

2020-09-29

DARTMOUTH – The Hockey Nova Scotia Diversity & Inclusion Task Force today launched an innovative digital survey seeking public feedback in making the game of hockey more welcoming, diverse and inclusive for everyone. The task force is particularly interested in hearing from communities traditionally underrepresented in the game.

“There are reasons why communities of colour, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ2+ and new Canadians are not picking hockey, and we really need to hear from these individuals in order to inform and effect positive change,” said Dean Smith, Chair of the Hockey Nova Scotia Diversity & Inclusion Task Force.

The information will assist the task force in making informed recommendations to the board of directors on addressing racism and discrimination in the sport.

The Diversity & Inclusion Task Force was formed in December 2019 in response to local and international incidents involving discrimination in the game. The group made a recommendation earlier this year for the creation of a position on the Hockey Nova Scotia Board of Directors dedicated to issues surrounding diversity and inclusion. In keeping with its public statement that “racism and discrimination have no place in our game”, Hockey Nova Scotia unanimously approved that recommendation and created a seat at the board table.

“This was unprecedented in the country, which demonstrates their strong leadership in this area,” says Smith.

The survey can be found at hockeynovascotia.ca and will remain open to the public until November 1, 2020.

We are happy to inform you that our 2020 Lace’Em Up Hockey Registration Grant is now open. Applications will close on September 30th or until funds run out. Please encourage your players to apply early as funds are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have updated our funding policies for this season. We are currently accepting, reviewing, and awarding grants for the 2020–2021 hockey season but we will not be sending any monies until the end of September. All cheques will be sent directly to the hockey associations along with a list of players that were accepted. During this unprecedented time, we will wait and see how the pandemic unfolds in the fall and make sure that our recipients will still be able to play organized hockey at the end of the September. Unfortunately, the outbreak had a huge negative impact on all kinds of sports. At Lace’Em Up, we are optimistic and hope for a great hockey season.

If you have any questions please email us at info@laceemup.ca.  We hope everyone stays safe and healthy.

MEIFHA Launches Preseason Development

2020-08-19

Metro East Inferno Female Hockey Association is pleased to offer Preseason Development Sessions to all divisions (U9 – U18) during the month of September.  These sessions will provide our players with the opportunity to get on the ice prior to the anticipated October 1st Player Evaluation date as outlined in the Hockey Nova Scotia Rebound Plan

Canada's National Women’s Hockey Team Head Coach and Dalhousie University Women's Hockey Program Head Coach, Troy Ryan and Dalhousie University's Men’s Hockey Team Head Coach, Chris Donnelly will be planning and featuring in our sessions. Their involvement provides an exceptional development opportunity for our players..

Goaltenders who register will additionally be provided with 3 one-hour goaltending-specific sessions, with Todd Bengert of Upper Echelon Goaltending

Group sizes will be dictated by the most up-to-date Return To Play information provided by Hockey NS.  We will attempt to create groups based on where girls played last season to facilitate the sessions.  Unfortunately, due to many important logistical protocols and other tedious administrative tasks that are required to facilitate these sessions, MEIFHA will not be accommodating any grouping requests.

Six sessions (2 per week): one-hour on-ice development
Cost:  $100

SCHEDULE (*.PDF file)

To register, simply add the Preseason Development Sessions during the regular registration process.  Spaces will fill quickly and although MEIFHA will attempt to add sessions if interest warrants, there is no guarantee more ice will be available, so please don't delay!

2020 - 2021 REGISTRATION for Preseason Development Sessions will close September 1st.  Spaces are filling up quickly!

Yours in hockey,

Metro East Inferno FHA Executive

*** Please note that Metro East Inferno will not be offering traditional Conditioning Camps ahead of the player evaluations.

A Message from your MEIFHA Executive

2020-08-17

On behalf of the MEIFHA Board,

As we prepare to open our registration this week, many of you may be wondering what the upcoming 2020 - 2021 Metro East Inferno hockey season will look like? While we may not know everything yet, we do know that we are able to get back on the ice in September for development sessions, and that we intend to begin evaluations, and subsequent team selections beginning October 1st.

As the circumstances continue to evolve, we want Inferno families to know that we are and will be following the Hockey Nova Scotia Rebound Plan to the letter, and that the goal is to get our girls back to playing the game they love this hockey season. We may not get to a normal state in the usual timeframe of a traditional hockey season, but we all have to realize that this will be a unique hockey season.

We want to assure MEIFHA players, parents and families that there are numerous potential plans to be put in place, depending on the circumstances, that lead back to the return of full play. We will keep our members updated every step of the way and do everything in our power to create a positive hockey environment and experience for all of the Inferno players.

We look forward to the season and the collective efforts of all of our Inferno families to make these unusual times less stressful to our players,

Sincerely,

Chris

Hockey Canada Age Divisions

Age group names for minor hockey

Find out when your child can begin playing minor hockey. Learn about age-appropriate development as players advance to successive age divisions.

Hockey Canada and its 13 members have ratified age division names changes for all levels of minor hockey. The changes create a simpler and more consistent reference for parents registering their children.

The changes taking effect for 2020-21 season registration.

Only the names will change. Actual divisions remain consistent with past seasons. Areas with Major and Minor designations within divisions will continue to do so under the new naming format.

Congratulations Metro East Inferno Teams

2020-03-09

nsfemalechamps2020
The Metro East Inferno executive would like to take this opportunity to express our overwhelming pride in our amazing Inferno girls!

SEVEN Metro East teams in this weekend's Provincial Championships and Day of Champions is amazing and provided for so much excitement and many memorable moments. It's very worthy to note that we had an Inferno team in each of the Atom, Pee Wee, and Bantam Divisions of the B Championships, in the inaugural season for the Category. I think it is safe to say that female hockey is alive and growing in Metro East. These results are worth promoting as we have all worked so hard as players, parents and volunteers to make this happen:

Atom AA: Mya MacCormick and Lily Kate Williams - Atom AA All Star Team

Atom B Fire: Provincial Silver-medalists after an exciting 4-3 double-OT Championship Game!!

Peewee B Ice: Provincial Silver-medalists after an exciting 1-0 Championship game!

Bantam AA:

Taeyeon Kim = Top Defenseman
- Inhye Jang = All-Star Team Goalie
- Bella House = All-Star Team Forward

Bantam A: Provincial Silver-medalists after an exciting 3-1 Championship Game!

Bantam B Ice: Our Bantam B Ice team are Provincial Champions after and exciting 4-2 win over Metro West Force Sharp Shooters!
Bantam B Ice - Day of Champions Gold

Midget AA:

Our Midget AA team are Provincial Champions for the second year in a row! Their back to back championship quest was realized after a nail-biting 2-0 win over Fundy-Highland!
- Top Defense:  Molly MacKinnon
All Star Goalie:   Allie Clark.

Yours in hockey,

Chris
